Tongue Of The Wise

DAY 1 OF 7

Guard Your Lips

Remember, our words affect our world.

The wise king Solomon instructs in Proverbs 13:3 that ‘He who guards his mouth preserves his life, but he who opens wide his lips shall have destruction.’ He also informs us that ‘Whoever guards his mouth and tongue keeps his soul from troubles’ in Proverbs 21:23.

We all have regrets on our choice of words in certain situations and carry the guilt of what we have spoken in the past. We all comprehend the significance of our words and the powerful impact it has on our world, mainly our relationships with other people with whom our primary modal of communication is words, our business interactions and as well in our decision making.

It’s pertinent for us to know how we can use our words to bless our lives and the lives of people around us. As King Solomon instructs in Proverbs 13:3 we need to guard our mouth in order to preserve our life and keep ourselves from a lot of trouble. Therefore, we need to make a conscious decision to monitor every word that proceeds from our tongue and not speak in a meaningless, foolish manner which can have a disastrous outcome on our lives and those around us. All we need to do is to implore or request God to help us in being vigilant regarding what we speak, just like David the psalmist who implored God in Psalm 141:3 to ‘Set a guard O Lord over my mouth, Keep a watch over the door of my lips’.

Father we just pray and ask that by Your Holy Spirit, You will set a guard over our mouth, over our lips so that we will know how to use our words rightly. And Father, we pray for those of us who seem to be getting into a lot of trouble because of words we speak, who end up getting into a lot of destructive things because of loose words. I pray that You will change that for us. Set a guard over our lips we pray. In Jesus' name, Amen.
