Day 8–Put God first in your finances (Wealth)
After graduating from college, I decided I wanted to give back by tithing. So, I did. With a fixed income at the time, I decided I would step out on faith
and trust God. You know, it was funny, when I fell on hard times and reneged on my commitment to tithe, everything went wrong! I owed more than I earned,
my car was constantly in need of repairs, and I incurred unexpected expenses often. But when I recommitted to God, my dollars would stretch and I never
went without.
After learning the true meaning of tithing, I remained faithful to tithing and committed to being a blessing to others. And years later, I have never gone
one day without. This is still my testimony today!
Can you afford to give 10%?
For me, I feared paying tithes. I questioned whether I would be able to meet my needs. I asked myself, “Does tithing make sense? How could God expect me to
live off 90% of my income?” I thought, “God, I am barely making ends meet now!”
And I am not alone. Many people fear they cannot afford to tithe. But you can’t afford not to. God tells us in His Word, He will open the windows of heaven
and pour out a blessing you would not have room enough to receive in Malachi 3:10.
Tithing brings blessings
In Malachi 3:8-12, the Word speaks about tithing. It also provides key principles about tithing. It tells us that tithing brings about blessings. The
scripture teaches us to bring our tithes to the Lord and we will receive blessings from God. More importantly, God says, “Try me!" Are you willing to try
Him today?
Trust Him in Advance
Deciding to trust God with your finances requires a faithful commitment to God. It means even when your change is “strange” and times are rough, you will
still commit to what God has already showed you to do.
Now listen, when you decide to tithe and trust God, there may be distractions to get you off track. But let me warn you. This is a test! Stay true to your
commitment and you will see God bless your life.
