The Third Option

DAY 1 OF 7

The Third Option

Have you ever found yourself in the middle of a heated debate, where the two sides were pulling at you to get you on their side, and stand against the other?

In every race conversation, you’re asked to pick a side. Are you with Black or White people? Asians or Hispanics? Are you racist or “woke”? For the police or with the community?

You may not be aware of it, but the Devil created sides. He uses sides to divide and pit us against each other, to fight one another, to argue and tear each other down. That sort of division is prevalent in our culture today – especially when it comes to the issue of race. If you turn on the tv for five minutes, you will see how division in our culture is creating an “us versus them” mentality.

In Joshua 5:13-15, an Angel of the Lord appeared as Joshua was preparing for the Battle of Jericho. As the Angel approached, Joshua asked, “Whose side are you on – ours or our enemies’?” The Angel responded, “Neither, but as commander of the army of the Lord I have now come.” In other words, the Angel was saying, “I’m not on your side, or your enemies’ side - I AM the side!” Then he beckoned Joshua to join God’s side, by choosing the Third Option.

The Third Option is about honoring what we have in common with each other: the priceless value of God’s image, in which we are all made. Align yourself with God, instead of people, and He will guide you toward peace and unity with your brothers and sisters of all races.

Questions for the Day:

Can you think of a time when you were urged to pick a side, but internally, you felt that neither side was 100% right?

Was that situation resolved? If so, how? Did you pick a side?

In what ways have you exemplified The Third Option – honoring God’s image in people on all sides of a debate - in your life?
