The Stories We Tell: 28 Days Of Truth-Telling For The SoulSýnishorn
DAY 25 | TAKE IT EASY
centering thought
“The work that God would have us accomplish in the world will be fueled by him, not us …”
encouragement from God’s word
Read: MATTHEW 11:27-30
devotional direction
Such necessary words from Jesus, to remind us in whose strength we change the world. The truth is this: Even the most organized mama cannot plan her way into God’s good graces. Even the most competent leader cannot strategize her way into God’s good graces. Even the most hospitable hostess cannot serve her way into God’s good graces. The work that God longs to do in and through us? It can be empowered only by him.
And so, the injunction to come. “Come to me,” Jesus says, his helpful hand extended, “and I will give you rest … let me teach you … and you will find rest for your souls.”
The burden we feel to “change the world” was never our burden to bear. The only “load” the Father intended for us to carry is the load of intimate communion with his Son. Imitate God, therefore, in everything you do, because you are his dear children …
Our singular objective is the imitation of God. We look to him, as he, alone, changes the world.
question to ponder
What will you be required to lay down today, to come to Jesus, to be taught, to rest?

About this Plan
Based on the "The Stories We Tell: Real Women. Real Lives. Real Love" Church Edition. This twenty-eight-day devotional experience has been created for you to, in effect, think more carefully about what you’re thinking—about who you are and why you’re here and the role God longs for you to play in impacting the world around you for good. Consider carving out ten or fifteen minutes each day for twenty-eight days, during your first waking hours, perhaps, or just before you close your day and head to bed.
