A House Built on the Rock
The approach my book and this plan take, parallel the structure of a home. My wife and I bought the house we now live in as it was being built. All that we had on the lot at the time was the foundation. Soon, we watched them build the frame. We didn't think about it much at the time, but both the foundation and the frame had to be strong for the house to last. With a bad foundation or with the wrong materials or with poor construction of the frame, what is now a lovely home would instead be a disaster. It would not stand up to the normal wear-and-tear of life, let alone withstand any storms that came our way. We wanted a house like that in Jesus' words in Matthew when he spoke of the wise man who built his house on the rock.
Picture healthy sexual expression - purity - as the home itself. Five key principles (connect regularly with God, involve others, control your thoughts, control your eyes, and flee), form the frame of this home which we build on the foundation of God's person, power, and provisions. Too often, we try to build this home without an adequate foundation or the right frame. And then, when storms hit (temptations), the structure crumbles. Jesus also talked about this kind of poorly-built house - a house built on sand (the wrong foundation) which crumbled.
When we build this home of our healthy sexuality on the right foundation with the right frame, we can stand up to the storms that hit. We can be "stormproof men." Such men have:
- A healthy view of God
- A healthy view of their identity in Christ
- A healthy view of the seriousness of sin
- A healthy awareness of their weaknesses
- An awareness of the temptations that most affect them
- A good definition of sexual purity
- Healthy relationships with others who can encourage and challenge them
- A healthy view of women
- A healthy spiritual walk
- A process for evaluating and changing their thought of life
- A process to control their eyes
- The presence of mind to fight temptations when they strike
So, are you ready to begin the process? Please look for the second part of the plan, Stormproof Men, where we will start by figuring what we mean by “sexual purity.” The answer may not be as obvious as you think!

About this Plan
Since Scripture is true, since God is faithful, and since God promised He would not allow us to be tempted beyond what we can endure, we have real hope for success and real help from Him. The purpose of this plan is to help discover such hope and help – and to experience purity before the sexual struggle engulfs us. Can a believer experience sexual purity when everything around him says to indulge and enjoy it? The Bible says yes!
