Finding An Anchor In Our AnxietySýnishorn
The Good News
It’s the Gospel, Jesus meets my anxieties, worries and fears. I can come through any news report there is, because I’m not going to die until Jesus decides it is time for me to come home. I’m going to trust Him with every trial, because every trial is going to give me an opportunity to talk about eternity. I’m going to believe there is an upper story that is happening in Heaven, not just the lower story of what’s happening on Earth. But as we disconnected ourselves as a society from God, we got nothing but the lower story. The lower story is the Earth aching with pains to declare that we need God in Heaven through Christ, to meet our needs on this lower story.
If you only got a lower story, you should be hopeless, you should be anxious, that is the only response. But if you got an upper story that God is at work in some way, you can rest. You can say, “I don’t like what is going on, I am asking ‘on Earth as it is in Heaven.’” Let’s bring some Heaven down to Earth, and let’s let God do His work. He is the fixer. You’re not the one in control, you’re not the one who has all the answers all the time, neither am I. He is the fixer of all things.
Let me share with you a quote from Corrie Ten Boom,
“Worry is a cycle of inefficient thoughts whirling around a center of fear.”
I call that sideways energy, in other words, energy that is just leaking out. When I start getting worried, I have to ask the question, “Why are you like this soul, what is going on in the inside?” Get the right perspective, God is in control.
How do we seek God during Anxiety?
II. Our Path – Never underestimate the power of obedience to Christ. When you followed Jesus Christ, you trusted that His death on the cross was for you and His grace and forgiveness reached you. Then you’re able to walk the rest of your life in obedience to the Lord. On the other hand, our disobedience will actually further our fears. If I’m nervous about a message that I’m going to give, here is the first thing that I’ll say, “Lord is this the message that You have for me to give?” Not, “this is the message that I want to give, please bless it.” His power always accompanies His ideas. His power doesn’t always accompany your ideas.
