Where Do I Go? Devotions From Time of Grace

DAY 2 OF 6

Where do I go with my doubts?

Can you actually admit it when you have doubts about your faith, or are you too ashamed? Do you have to keep quiet so your perfect Christian friends and family won’t think you’re a loser? Are you afraid that Satan has his hooks in you, but there are just some things about the Christian belief system that you honestly can’t accept?

Don’t beat yourself up. John the Baptist had been gifted and appointed Jesus Christ’s personal representative on earth. He had a phenomenal 18 months of ministry, and he probably thought he would have a great 40-year career. But then he was arrested and held without trial in one of King Herod’s prisons.

As he sat there day after day, his confidence might have started to ebb—either that, or he was afraid that his teaching companions were losing theirs: “When John, who was in prison, heard about the deeds of the Messiah, he sent his disciples to ask him, ‘Are you the one who is to come, or should we expect someone else?’ Jesus replied, ‘Go back and report to John what you hear and see: The blind receive sight, the lame walk, those who have leprosy are cleansed, the deaf hear, the dead are raised, and the good news is proclaimed to the poor’” (Matthew 11:2-5).

When doubts trouble your heart, just let the gospels tell you of Jesus’ words and deeds. Marvel at his power. Learn from his wisdom. Bask in his love.
