Mentor Like Jesus: Exploring How He Made Disciples

DAY 2 OF 13

 Mentoring on Purpose

Jesus’ mentoring was on purpose. It was all about the Father and Kingdom building. Jesus was on a mission, and mentoring was a fundamental strategy to fulfilling it.

In John 10:10, we hear Jesus’ mission, His purpose . . . “I have come that they may have life and have it to the full.”

His mission was to show us the kind of life that God intended for us to have. A life filled with meaning and wonder . . . a life of purpose.

When we think about the life Jesus lived, the life He modeled for us, we see someone who loved and served people. And was intentional about it.

As Christians, when we accept the Father’s offer of salvation through Jesus, we get life . . . eternal life. We get a life of peace while we finish out our days here on Earth.

But if we want the second part, “and have [life] to the full,” we have to move beyond the gift of our salvation. We have to want more. To get involved in the cause Jesus started . . . the cause of redemption. We have to become others-focused; to start thinking outside our own little world.

Challenge: Suppose we ask God right now, “What would You have me do? I know my purpose is to bring glory to You, but how would You have me do that through mentoring?" Journal your thoughts and continue to pray for guidance.

About this Plan

Mentor Like Jesus: Exploring How He Made Disciples

The church needs sold-out, all-in Jesus-followers. Disciples and disciple-makers. But where do you find them? How do you develop them? Look no further than how Jesus did it. The greatest leader and mentor of all time poured into 12 guys for a season. Those lives multiplied to build the church to over two billion people who declare their belief in Christ today.
