Selfless

DAY 6 OF 6

Let’s Get Real

Let’s get real simple. What are we doing here? What is reading the Bible, prayer, and Christianity all about? It’s about loving God and others, right? It’s following Jesus.

If that sums up your faith, then think about this question: What does it actually mean to follow Jesus? He’s not literally walking in some jeans and sandals in front of us, right? What does it mean every day? Here’s another question: How much do my daily routines, attitudes, relationships, financial decisions, and goals look like Jesus?

John the Baptist figured out following Jesus. He realized more of Jesus meant less of John. He said, “He must become greater, I must become less.”

The Apostle Paul also made it pretty simple in his letter to the church in Philippi. He said we need to have the same mindset as Christ. To paraphrase Paul, he basically said, “Think about it. Jesus was God. He didn’t have to do any of this. But He made Himself a servant, obedient to the worst life has to offer—death—all to give us life.”

Jesus, like God, could’ve had whatever He wanted. Instead, He gave up everything He had so we could know God. Following Jesus is living with that mindset.

How does it look to apply this mindset to the way you serve your kids, your family, your neighbors, your co-workers, the other humans we share this planet with?

What about your life looks like His? What specifically will you have less of in order to live more like Him?

Pray: God, thank You for Your selfless love. Help me to love and live like Jesus: bold in witness, courageous in service, extravagant in generosity, and grateful in the daily grind.
