Well Done

DAY 5 OF 5

The Whole Point

Ultimately, every mundane task, every work project, every playdate and every appointment can bring us closer to the Father, and to who He created us to be. The whole point is to enter into the joy of the Master—into a life of abundance.

To the two faithful servants in the Parable of Talents who improve what they had, the master commends their stewardship of little by rewarding them with much. God’s joy is seeing us develop our talents, and operate from a Kingdom perspective.  An earthly perspective asks why on earth you should be honest when your client has been manipulative, or why you should be kind to your husband when he’s been distant, or why you shouldn’t covertly Google that last impossible exam question.

But a Kingdom perspective knows that everything you do is for God, to bring glory to Him in the development and exercise of your gifts. Colossians instructs us to incorporate our heart with intention into whatever we do, with the confidence that God rewards the faithful.

Work in this way is a tool for transformation, and when we utilize it well, it not only transforms us but also inspires transformation in others. The Kingdom perspective knows that how you approach your work matters as much as getting it done. Your journey of development can be a walk of worship, in which you determine to recognize your talents with confidence and to honor the Giver through your transformation.

Daily acknowledging His direction gives a purpose to your present that is worthy of His highest commendation: “Well done, good and faithful daughter. You have been faithful over a little, I will set you over much. Enter into the joy of your master.”
