God And My Emotions: Devotions From Time Of GraceSýnishorn
I’m Anxious All The Time
When something happens that you don’t understand, does your mind leap immediately to the worst possible fear? When your husband is a half hour late, are you afraid that his car is in a ditch? When your teenagers aren’t where they are supposed to be, does a little voice in your head fret that they might have been abducted?
Do you hate going to the doctor because you’re afraid of what you might hear? Hear people laughing in a room and conclude that they must be laughing at you? Do you wake up three times during the night because of bad dreams?
Irrational fear and extreme anxiety are part of the human condition – broken ever since sin invaded our bodies and minds. For some, taking antidepressant medication can bring some relief and even help with mood swings.
Everyone can benefit from listening to the soothing voice of the Savior. Anxious people more than anyone will find calmness and strength in His promise: “Cast all your anxiety on Him because He cares for you.” (1 Peter 5:7) If your stress is something over which you have control, it is your problem. If you can’t control it, it doesn’t belong to you. Cast it on Jesus and let it go. He will work on it while you’re sleeping.
