Job Continues: I Will Maintain My Integrity
1And Job again #ch. 29:1; See Num. 23:7took up his discourse, and said:
2“As God lives, who has #ch. 34:5 taken away my right,
and the Almighty, who has #[Ruth 1:20; 2 Kgs. 4:27]made my soul bitter,
3as long as my breath is in me,
and #ch. 33:4; [Gen. 2:7]the spirit of God is in my nostrils,
4my lips will not speak #ch. 13:7falsehood,
and my tongue will not utter #ch. 13:7deceit.
5Far be it from me to say that you are right;
till I die I will not put away my #ch. 2:3, 9; [ch. 13:15]integrity from me.
6I #ch. 2:3 hold fast my righteousness and will not let it go;
my heart does not #[Acts 23:1; 24:16; 1 Cor. 4:4]reproach me for any of my days.
7“Let my enemy be as the wicked,
and let him who rises up against me be as the unrighteous.
8 # See ch. 8:13 For what is the hope of the godless #Matt. 16:26; [Luke 12:20]when God cuts him off,
when God takes away his life?
9 #
Ps. 18:41; Prov. 1:28; 15:29; Isa. 1:15; Jer. 11:11; 14:12; Ezek. 8:18; Mic. 3:4; Zech. 7:13; [ch. 35:12, 13]; See Ps. 66:18 Will God hear his cry
when distress comes upon him?
10Will he #See ch. 22:26take delight in the Almighty?
Will he call upon God at all times?
11I will teach you concerning the hand of God;
# ch. 10:13; 23:14 what is with the Almighty I will not conceal.
12Behold, all of you have seen it yourselves;
why then have you become altogether vain?
13 # ch. 20:29; [ch. 18:21; 31:2] “This is the portion of a wicked man with God,
and the heritage that #ch. 6:23; 15:20oppressors receive from the Almighty:
14If his #Deut. 28:41; Hos. 9:13, 16 children are multiplied, it is for #Jer. 15:2the sword,
and his descendants have not enough bread.
15Those who survive him the pestilence buries,
and his #Ps. 78:64widows do not weep.
16Though he #Zech. 9:3heap up silver like dust,
and pile up clothing like clay,
17he may pile it up, but the righteous will wear it,
and #[Prov. 13:22; Eccles. 2:26]the innocent will divide the silver.
18He builds his #ch. 8:14, 15 house like a moth’s,
like #Isa. 1:8 a booth that #Song 1:6; 8:11, 12a watchman makes.
19He goes to bed rich, but will #Jer. 8:2; Ezek. 29:5 do so no more;
he opens his eyes, and #ch. 24:24his wealth is gone.
20 # See ch. 18:11 Terrors overtake him like #See ch. 22:11 a flood;
in the night a whirlwind #ch. 34:20, 25; 36:20carries him off.
21 # [ch. 30:22] The east wind lifts him up and he is gone;
it #ch. 8:18sweeps him out of his place.
22It#27:22 Or He (that is, God); also verse 23 hurls at him #ch. 16:13without pity;
he flees from its#27:22 Or his; also verse 23 power in headlong flight.
23It #Lam. 2:15; Ezek. 25:6; Nah. 3:19 claps its hands at him
and #[2 Chr. 29:8; Jer. 49:17; Lam. 2:15; Ezek. 27:36; Zeph. 2:15]hisses at him from its place.
