Pada waktu itu, sebenarnya sudah cukup banyak orang yang percaya kepada Yesus, termasuk para pemimpin Yahudi. Namun karena takut kepada kelompok Farisi, mereka tidak mau mengakuinya secara terus terang, sebab mereka takut diusir dan dilarang masuk ke rumah-rumah pertemuan orang Yahudi. Mereka lebih suka menyenangkan hati manusia daripada menyenangkan hati Allah.
