Now behold the son of God, Christ the newborn king’

When we gather with our family and friends, especially during this joyous time of the year, what many people tend to think about are the gifts they might receive or give to their loved ones. This giving of gifts to one another to celebrate the season however, ultimately comes from the night the wisemen followed the Star to the place of the Lord’s birth and delivered their gifts to Him. To truly understand the celebration of Christmas, is to also understand that a true hunger for the Lord’s will in your life is always going to be accompanied by a compulsion to give.
The wisemen unwittingly brought gifts that would help finance and provide passage for the infant’s journey into Egypt to escape the evil plot of Herod to kill Him. They had no idea their generosity would provide a way of escape. What this might mean to you is your individual duty to discover. Once you learn what you’re willing to lay before God, and just how hungry you really are for the Lord’s will in your life, you will also learn what it really means to celebrate His life, freely given for us, so that you might have a future. And what joy that will bring you! For ultimately, His will for our lives will surpass anything we could have ever imagined. This is why we give: to honor the gift that Jesus gave to us so long ago.
