How awesome would it be if there was a way to live life free from fear, full of provision, full of purpose, and living in a place of rest? 

There is, and when you understand it, you can unlock the power of rest in every area of your life. To understand rest, we need to discuss the Sabbath, because as Drenda and I have found out, herein lies a very important key to the Kingdom of God functioning and providing in our lives as God intended. 

Shocker: the Sabbath is not a day any longer!

I hope that statement got your attention. There has been great discussion in the body of Christ as to how the Sabbath should be celebrated: Saturday, Sunday, or beginning at sundown on Friday night until sundown on Saturday evening. Whole denominations have been built around their interpretation of the Sabbath.

Let’s take a look at Colossians 2:16-17: “Therefore do not let anyone judge you by what you eat or drink, or with regard to a religious festival, a New Moon celebration or a Sabbath day. These are a shadow of the things that were to come; the reality, however, is found in Christ.”

Pay close attention to what Paul says. The Sabbath day was a shadow of the things that were to come; the reality, however, is found in Christ! If Christ is the real thing, then the Sabbath day is a shadow of who He is, what He did, and what we have through Him! 

That means the only way we can discover true rest every day where we have more than enough and are able to stay focused on our assignment is through Christ!

Jesus said He was the resurrection; it was not just a day. The Sabbath day was and is a shadow of what Jesus did on the cross for us. Jesus is the true Sabbath, and in Him we find access to the Kingdom of God and all that it has. Thus, we can rest!
