SELAH
The books of Psalms are full of these amazing moments called, “Selah’s.” A Selah (in the Bible) is a frequent occurrence that happens at the end of a verse in Psalms and the book of Habakkuk. Although it may have been a musical directive, it’s one of those places in the written piece that the reader pauses to reflect on what has just been written. We wanted to add it into the album list because it is a perfect opportunity musically and spiritually to pause on what the listener has just experienced. On the “Marble and Mortar” album we find two Selah moments. The Selah’s first moment comes after the song, “A Long Way Off,” giving those listening to the album a moment to really reflect on the power of God’s love and experience in its fullness.
Think about the last time you just took a few moments to resonate on how much God loves you. This is a moment to do just that. Taking time to pause in gratitude for the grace, mercy, and love of our God. Think about his forgiveness and the price that was paid on the cross to be the once and for all sacrifice for your sin, my sin. This is why pausing to reflect is so needed in the busy world we live. We are constantly bombarded with our busy schedules and the buzzing of our mobile phones. If we don’t take time to reflect, we can easily miss the beautiful, intimate moments between you and your heavenly Father that He longs to have with us.
So, take a moment as you listen to pause. To reflect. To thank. This is our amazing God!
Psalm 32: 1-5 The Passion Translation (TPT)
A poem of insight and instruction, by King David
1
How happy and fulfilled are those
whose rebellion has been forgiven,
those whose sins are covered by blood.
2
How blessed and relieved are those
who have confessed their corruption to God!
For he wipes their slates clean
and removes hypocrisy from their hearts.
3
Before I confessed my sins, I kept it all inside;
my dishonesty devastated my inner life,
causing my life to be filled with frustration,
irrepressible anguish, and misery.
4
The pain never let up, for your hand of conviction
was heavy on my heart.
My strength was sapped, my inner life dried up
like a spiritual drought within my soul.
Pause in his presence
5
Then I finally admitted to you all my sins,
refusing to hide them any longer.
I said, “My life-giving God,
I will openly acknowledge my evil actions.”
And you forgave me!
All at once the guilt of my sin washed away
and all my pain disappeared!
Pause in his presence
