Kairos - God’s Appointed Time to Act

Do you know Him as Father?

In Psalms 23:1, David addresses God as ‘The Lord’; whereas in Mathew 6:8-9, Jesus taught the disciples to address God as Father. Although God is the Lord of all creation, it is so comforting to know that He is also our heavenly Father.

The word ‘Lord’ reminds me of a master and servant relationship, where the servant honours, respects and obeys the command of His Master. The master has the authority to punish his servant if he is wrong and the servant will always have to depend on His master for His needs.

In contrast a Father is always looking out for his child. He will always love and be there to comfort his child. Since he is a son, all that the Father has belongs to Him and he needs not earn or strive for it. All a son has to do is to be in a relationship with his father.

So that’s the good news: Because of the finished work of Jesus on the cross, we become the sons and daughters of God (2 Corinthians 6:18). Also, if we are children, then we are heirs--heirs of God and co-heirs with Christ (Romans 8:17).
