3. How did your family react when you told them about Gabriel’s visit and what he said?
4. Did you cry when Elizabeth greeted you so warmly? —she knew! Did you compare your cravings, your morning sickness, your ankles swelling?
5. Was telling Joseph your news the hardest thing you’ve ever done? Did you think you might have to raise this baby alone?
6. How did you deal with the shameful looks and criticism from the ladies in Nazareth? Did Joseph comfort you? Did he help you refocus on the truth?
7. Did you have to go with Joseph to Bethlehem or did you just not want to be without him in Nazareth? Did you know about the prophecy that Messiah was to be born in Bethlehem?
8. Was anyone with you when the labor pains intensified, and the baby was coming? Were you frightened? Did Joseph break with tradition and help you?
9. Did you count newborn Jesus’ fingers and toes? Who did He look like? Did He have your nose or your eyes?
10. Did you mind the clumsy intrusion of the shepherds into your makeshift birthing room? What did you think of their story about the angels in the field?
11. How was Joseph with the baby? Did he mind naming him Jesus, rather than Joe, Jr.? Did he pick Jesus up when He cried? Change His diaper? Did you ever eavesdrop on him talking to Him? What did he say?
12. When did Jesus first sleep through the night? What songs did you sing to Him during 3 a.m. feedings? From the Psalms?
13. What’s with the old man in the temple? Did you wonder how he knew your boy was the Messiah? And his odd prediction of the sword? And what about the travelers from the East? How could they have known your secret? Did you realize then that their gifts were God’s provision for your family?
14. Did you believe Joseph when he told you about his dream of angels and warnings of Herod’s plot? What was it like to know someone wanted to kill your baby? Did you pray for the mothers whose babies were murdered in the search for yours?
15. What was it like to raise a kid who didn’t sin? Did you feel guilty every time you did?
16. What were Jesus’ first words? His favorite foods? Did He have a pet? Did He play well with His half-brothers and sisters? With cousin John?
17. Did you ever keep his fingers away from Joseph’s spikes and hammers only to stop and think of the future?
18. Did you ever cry to God for help in knowing how to be His mom? Did you ever feel like God should have chosen someone else? Someone older, wiser? Someone who could have given Jesus a better life?
19. Did you ever look at this sweet little boy, God’s little boy, and think of the amazing truth that He was the Christ, the Messiah, the Savior of the world . . . and that He was your Savior?
20. How did you feel when it was time for Him to leave your home? Or that day on the Mount of Olives in Jerusalem when He disappeared in the clouds
