Stay Focused

In our pursuit of excellence, we often look far too ahead than focusing on what God has given us to do now. Too much looking ahead will actually distract us from giving our best to the current work. One can argue, is it wrong to plan our careers? While it may sound like the right question, we do not find any successful children of God in the Bible planning their careers!

In Jer 29:11, we find, “for I know the plans I have for you”, declares the LORD, “plans to prosper you and not to harm you, plans to give you hope and a future”. If only we believe in this promise, we can stay focused and fulfill the commandment in I Cor 10:31, So whether you eat or drink or whatever you do, do it all for the glory of God.

It is easier said than done, primarily because we cannot ‘wait’. I struggle with this problem too, both at work and in ministry, especially when the results do not come as per my expectations. I like what Phil Hodges once said, ‘God called us not to be successful, but to be faithful’.

Learning to be faithful to what God has entrusted us with and giving our best with all our hearts until He gives us the next assignment is the key to staying focused.

We observe from Jesus’ life how He stayed focused on His Father’s will even in the most difficult circumstances while He was going to Gethsemane. Scripture tells us, He set His gaze upon His Father’s will. He could have done more miracles and healed more people, but He stayed focused on that for which He had come to this earth.

Staying focused is the key.

Lord, fill me with the knowledge of Your will so that I may live like You and stay focused on the purpose for which You put me in my workplace and do everything that pleases You and brings glory to Your Name. Amen

In Pursuit Of Excellence

Drawing from the Biblical premise of Paul addressing the Colossian church, which primarily consisted of slaves, the author speaks about the various issues related to pursuing excellence and ushers in a clarified understanding of the fact that faith is not merely for Sundays, but for every day, every place. He ends with a climaxing, soul-searching question - Are you willing to surrender your will to His today ?
