Jonah: A Reluctant Missionary

Think...

After you have read the book of Jonah, take a moment to ask yourself these questions...

Where was Jonah from and where did God call him to go?

Why didn’t he want to go?

Jonah was one of Israel’s first cross-cultural “missionaries.” Yes, the whole nation was to be a missionary people, but Jonah was called to bring a specific message to a specific people outside of his own. He lived many generations after Rahab and Ruth, and much had happened in the history of Israel during that time. They were now a divided nation, separated into northern and southern kingdoms each ruled by a monarch. Jonah was from the northern kingdom of Israel.

Over 2 days we will explore the entire book of Jonah, and consider what we can learn from his journey as a reluctant missionary.

Are there individuals or groups of people that you harbour bitterness towards?

How does this stop you from wanting to reach out to them?

Take a moment to pray for that person or those people. Ask God to highlight a specific verse to you to pray His truth over them today.
