Keep My Eyes Up
When the whole earth is shaking, Heaven keeps singing holy holy holy is the Lord
Only what cannot be shaken will remain. The Kingdom of God cannot be shaken. His Word cannot be shaken. His truth cannot be shaken. His power cannot be shaken. His praise can not be shaken. His glory cannot be shaken. His majesty cannot be shaken. His reign cannot be shaken. His righteousness, peace and joy cannot be shaken.
Whatever God does is forever.
There is an eternal song that the Angels sing around the throne of God in Heaven: “Holy, holy, holy, is the Lord God Almighty, who was, and is, and is to come!” (Revelation 4:8). Nothing stops the song that they sing day and night, and nothing should interrupt our song either. He is the only One eternally worthy of all glory, honor and praise.
When life doesn’t look like we thought it would, we keep singing and look up. When plans fall through and interruptions come, we keep singing and look up. When we face trials of many kinds, we keep singing and look up. He is a firm foundation, regardless of the whole earth shaking around us.
The world is constantly bombarding us, enticing and luring us with its ways. How do we handle it? Where do we look? So many things vie for our attention and it’s easy to give in to the distractive wiles of the enemy. We have to keep our eyes on Jesus, the Author and Finisher of our faith, and stay about our Father’s business, doing what He wills for our lives. We have to learn the value of two small, but significant words: yes and no, giving Him our prompt yes and the world our adamant no.
He calls us to set our minds and hearts on things above, not on things of this earth (Colossians 3). His Word says that godliness with contentment is great gain (1 Timothy 6:6). The world is in a competitive rat race, but we don’t have to compete. It will take determination, intentionality, and resolve. It won’t be easy, but all things are possible for us as believers.
Who and what has your gaze? Have you locked eyes with the One whose fire-filled eyes are already on you? Is Jesus truly your heart’s greatest desire? Are you satisfied in Him alone?
It has been said that “the only one who can truly satisfy the human heart is the One who created it”. We will never find real, lasting satisfaction anywhere but in Him.
Let it be our continual choice to turn away from temporal things that don’t matter, and our persistent prayer to say “Lord, keep my eyes up”.
