Take Care of Your Body

I know this may be a touchy subject for women, but the truth is we've got one body. Let's take care of it. As a follower of Jesus, every part of life is under the reign and rule of Jesus, including our physical bodies. As we yearn for spiritual health, it’s imperative to consider our physical health as well. Our heart, soul, and mind are housed in our body. It’s all connected. It’s all subject to growth or rot.

This isn’t a PSA to be skinny. I’m not hinting at dieting or a 21-day detox. It’s a nudge to determine what physical health looks like for you. Woman can’t live on donuts and coffee alone. Trust me, I’ve tried. She can’t live on 900 calories a day either. Trust me, I’ve tried. Physical health is equal parts self-control, healthy self-esteem, and stewardship of the body God gave us.

If there is underlying issues with food or body image, seek fresh perspective and redemption over issues that affect how you see your physical body. You were made to thrive in relationship with Christ: your mind, soul, heart, and body.

Our BMI does not determine our worth. The first step to health is to accept that a holy God unconditionally loves us. The very one who created us. We’re his image bearers. We aren’t required to reach a magic weight or waist size to receive love from the One we need it most.

Ask yourself:

What does eating to satisfy the needs of my body, not my emotions, look like? What physical activity do I enjoy and fits into my schedule? Is there underlying food issues that have gone unaddressed that need healing? Why do I want to be healthy?

Today, may you choose a life of health no matter if you’re in your twenties, thirties, or forties. Health is a gift. A gift to steward. May your motivation be free of shame or guilt, but rooted in the love and freedom of Jesus.
