Day 2: Justice and Image-Bearers
The Bible tells us that one of the reasons we long for justice (and should pursue) justice is because all people have been created in the image of God. Everyone. Every human being regardless of race, ethnicity, gender, socio-economic status, age, height, or IQ. And when they are not treated as image bearers, it is a matter of injustice.
But what exactly does it mean that humanity was created in the image of God?
This video on the Image of God traces the biblical idea of humans as co-rulers alongside God, who are commissioned to develop the world and its resources and to take it into new horizons. How has this human vocation been compromised by our selfishness and evil and wreaked havoc and injustice throughout the world? And how did Jesus open up a new way of being human—a new way of acting justly—through his life, death, and resurrection?
Let’s take a look and see!
After watching the video, reflect on these questions:
1. What would change in your life if you treated others like they were created in the image of God?
2. Spend a moment reflecting on what treating others as image bearers looks like in your life, right now, where God has you.
