JOU 4 SOU 7

Day 4: Know God’s Word To Discern

So you’ve made time and space for God. You’ve eliminated all distractions, and you’re alert and ready to go! Now what? Every time you try to listen, your mind starts to wander and think about something else…

When you try to hear from God, there will be many thoughts that try to fill the void of silence. Some will be your own, some will be from the enemy, and some will be from God if He is choosing to speak in that moment. Because we are human we don’t have perfect wisdom so it can be difficult to discern between them all.

The best way to know God’s voice is to read the Bible. This is the most common way He speaks to us, and it’s the only way we can hear from Him on demand. He made His Word available to us for this very purpose! Oh how few of us actually take advantage of it!

By reading the Bible you will know God’s character and who He is. You will be able to then discern thoughts that come from Him because it will never be in conflict with what is written in the Bible. This is because God does not contradict Himself.

The Bible is also great because it helps to quiet down all those other voices and thoughts. Many, many times exactly what I needed to hear from God jumped right off of the page, leaped right out of the verse, and pierced my very soul to give me the very life and wisdom I needed.

If you’re having difficulty listening, pray about it, then crack open the pages and read! God will send the right Word to you. Trust me! You can even search the internet for scriptures that apply to how you’re feeling in any given moment. The more you do this the more fruitful you will become.

The Listening Side of Prayer

When we pray, it’s far more important for us to hear what God has to say to us rather than what we want to say to Him. For most of us, prayer is too often a 1-way conversation. This devotional will explore ways we can better listen to what our Father is saying to us.
