The Ten Commandments. God’s Instruction Manual for Life

JOU 9 SOU 15

Being faithful to your spouse

When God had created the first man, He said: “I see that it is not good for the man to be alone. I will make the companion he needs, one just right for him.” (Genesis 2:18, ERV) This companion was the first woman, Eve. God gave her to Adam, and He made marriage an institution for humans: “Therefore a man shall leave his father and his mother and hold fast to his wife, and they shall become one flesh” (Genesis 2:24). So, marriage is not just a social construction invented by man, but God’s own idea. The rest of the Bible explains that marriage should be a lifelong covenant relationship between one man and one woman.

The seventh commandment forbids adultery, that is, to have a sexual relationship outside of marriage. God wants us to be faithful to our spouse. He wants us to stay away from sexual sins. We should use our body in a way that is holy and that gives honor to God.

Many people nowadays consider God’s moral standards outdated and redundant. What is your opinion?

The Ten Commandments. God’s Instruction Manual for Life

God gave the Israelites instructions on how to serve Him and how to treat fellow people. These “ten commandments” were like a constitution designed by God Himself, meant for his glory and the well-being of the people. They are still a valuable guideline for our life with God and with other people. This Reading Plan studies all ten commandments and the summary that Jesus gave us.
