A severe warning

Jesus’ words are a reliable guide to eternal life. They show us the way we should go and teach us how we can be reconciled with God. But what if we reject these words and decide to follow our own way instead?

Jesus warns us that this is a very bad idea. His word will judge us on the last day when God will judge humanity. If we reject the chance Jesus offers us, there will be no other way to escape God’s wrath.

In Luke 6, we find a parable illustrating this: If somebody hears Jesus’ words and does not do them, “he is like a man who built a house on the ground without a foundation. When the stream broke against it, immediately it fell, and the ruin of that house was great.”

We are warned because God does not want our destruction. He offers us life and joy. But it is our responsibility to answer his call and “receive his words”.
