Speak Your Name: Devotions and Declarations on the Reality of JesusEgzanp
Jesus, My Authority
Can you remember the last time you said, “I have a headache”? Or maybe the last time you said, “I have anxiety, fear, or a certain sickness or disease?” Have you ever thought about how easily we say we “have” these things that are not eternal before we realize and speak over ourselves the things that are? Why does it often feel easier to say what the world tells us we have before we’re able to say what Jesus tells us we have?
Think about a serpent and a scorpion. Jesus has given us authority over them both, but what is it that they both have in common? They both inject venom. Venom is a poison that if not retracted will gradually take over the whole body and can eventually end in death. Could it be that these words we so easily accept, that are not life and truth, act as a poison to our body? Could it be that we often speak words of death over ourselves without even realizing it? And yet our heavenly Father is saying, “I have given you authority over these things!”
May today be the start and the day we realize what we truly “have” and have freely been given by Jesus, simply by the power that His name carries. Before we say, “I have a headache,” what if we said, “I know I have healing because Jesus has given me authority over all the power of the enemy.” Before we say, “I have anxiety,” what if we said, “I feel overwhelmed with worry and anxiousness, but I know through Jesus I have authority over these feelings, and they will not control me.” Recognizing the authority we have in Jesus will change the way we see our situations or receive bad news because we know that these things are not what is final or eternal. Jesus is final. His death and His resurrection are the final words in your life. His death and His resurrection are where sickness, fear, anxiety, depression, doubt, insecurity, and lack were forever finished. In every moment, live in the authority of the One who defeated every form of death.
Declaration Prayer:
Jesus, You are my authority. In Your name, I know I have the authority to speak life over any situation and believe that it can and will change. I believe that through Your name, I have authority over everything the enemy means for harm in my life. Help me to speak Your name before I speak the things of this world over my life. May Your goodness and the truth of Your name be on my lips today. In Jesus’ name; Amen.

Only one name has the power to heal sick and broken people, make blind eyes see clearly, and even to restore the dead to life again. Speaking that one name can eliminate fear, calm moments of intense anxiousness, and transform deeply rooted depression into a forever reality of blessing, favor, and peace. Jesus is that name--and it holds all power in both heaven and on earth.
