WHAT AM I DOING HERE?

(a follow-up to the study to the YouVersion plan, Good Dreams… God Dreams)

Who is First?

Day 1

What am I doing here? Twenty plus years ago, when I asked myself this question, I asked it from such a selfish place. It was all about ME. What am I doing here in law school in Oklahoma? I should be there, in Nashville, where I can do what I’m great at, where I can maybe become famous, make millions, and then, after I become somebody, I’m going to do so much for others.

I even had in my head what I was going to say after I won my first Grammy: I want to thank my mom and my dad and my Lord and Savior Jesus Christ. I thought that was really brave of me… to say Jesus instead of God.

My intentions were good, I guess, but they were far from righteous. It was all about me, when it should have been ALL ABOUT HIM… JESUS.

There was nothing wrong with the dream I chased. It was the order of my thinking that was so off. God, in my life, was a distant second behind me and my mission at hand. Had I awakened each morning during my what am I doing here season of life with the sole prayer, God, I am yours, lead me where you want me to go, and I will follow, I’m not certain I would have ever ended up in Nashville. I am, though, sure of this: each day would have been a journey filled with God-ordained opportunities to show and share the love of Christ with others.

THAT, brothers and sisters in Christ, no matter where we are in our journey, is WHAT WE ARE DOING HERE—SHARING THE LOVE AND SAVING GRACE OF JESUS!

Thank you, God, for loving me enough to allow growing pains in my life, the kind of growing pains that hurt enough to force me to seek You with all my heart. Thank you for teaching me that You are all I need. Thank you for leading me each and every day towards Your finish line… not my own.
