Love God Greatly: Jesus Our Everything

JOU 12 SOU 30

Back in Hebrews 2:1, the author warned his readers against drifting away from the faith. Here, in chapter 6, he offered more insight on how we can remain grounded in our faith. An anchor keeps anything from a large cruise ship to a tiny fishing boat from drifting where it does not want to go. Though the wind and waves may rock and shift the boat around, if it is anchored, it will not move from its place regardless of the forces it encounters.

Our hope in Christ is the anchor of our faith. Our salvation is dependent on Christ: we will not drift away when we are anchored in Him. His work, His sacrifice is what keeps us from drifting away from our faith, not our own work.

We can be assured of our salvation because Jesus Himself goes before God on our behalf. Like the priests in the Old Testament, Jesus is the one who enters God’s presence and offers the sacrifice for our sins. Our salvation is secure because He is our anchor. He alone will keep us from drifting. All we need to do is surrender our lives to Him.

Lord Jesus, I believe You are my hope. You are all I need to rest in my salvation. You have done all of the work of redemption. Help me believe what You say: my salvation is secure in You and because of You. Amen.
