JESUS' BODY IS REMOVED FROM THE CROSS
Friday evening was upon Calvary, and the Sabbath was approaching. All bodies had to be removed from the crosses before the next day. The Romans came to break the legs of the crucified, to hasten death, but when they came to Jesus, he was already dead. They did not break Jesus' legs but pierced His side with a spear.
Joseph of Arimathea, an honored member of the Jewish Sanhedrin and a secret disciple of Jesus, boldly asked Pilate for Jesus' body. He wanted to give Jesus a proper burial. (This was a risky move on his part.) Joseph and Nicodemus took down Jesus' body and placed it in the arms of Mary, Jesus' mother.
Have you ever risked your reputation for doing what is right? If your Christian witness endangers your reputation, remember Joseph and what he did for Jesus. He was not afraid to stand up for his Lord.
