Learning from OT Greats: Joseph - From the Pit to the PalaceEgzanp
Day 12: Joseph after Jacob’s death
Thoughts on the Passage
Joseph was a man who saw God’s purposes.
He saw God’s purpose in his suffering – to enable the people to become a nation.
He saw God’s purpose in his position – to protect the whole family.
He saw God’s blessing on his children and their descendants.
He saw God’s promise to take them back to Canaan. He had them promise to take his bones with them.
He was a man who understood the heart of God for His people. It is a perspective that we all need to aspire to have.
Application to our Life
What legacy will we leave? Will it be servant based or activity based? In the end, the servant heart is of much greater value. Ask God for a heart that sees His purposes for us and our community.
Time to Pray
Father, today is a good day. It is a day where I take time and ask for Your heart to be my heart. In the midst of selfishness all around me, I ask for a heart that finds joy in serving others; peace in my situation; and hope for a family future. Joseph had all of those. I want them in my life as well. It put a great ending on his life and ministry and that is what we all seek. So open our heart to seek it and open our hands to embrace it. In Jesus name, Amen.

When we think about Joseph, one of the first things that comes to mind is DREAMER. We look at the life of Joseph and the process that he went through both spiritually and physically to get from the pit to the palace. In Joseph’s life we see the importance of God’s Timing as well as His Hand over one’s life – despite what things look like on the outside.
