God's Will For You

JOU 2 SOU 7

Obey God’s Revealed Will

God’s will can be understood in two ways, namely God’s sovereign will and God’s revealed will.

God’s revealed will is stated plainly and clearly in Scripture. He has revealed His will for us to obey. God’s sovereign will cannot be thwarted but His revealed will can be obeyed or disobeyed. Obedience to God’s revealed will in his word leads to a life of joy, peace and blessing. When I choose to disobey God’s revealed will in his word, it leads to sin and rebellion.

Though God gives us the freedom to choose to obey Him or not, that does not give us the right to disobey and sin.

God’s will for us is to be saved, to understand and live out His revealed will, to be filled with the Holy Spirit, to submit to one another and grow in holiness and sanctification and to give thanks in all circumstances. God’s will for us is to sometimes even suffer for His sake.

Some struggle to discern the will of God. God’s will is not a mystery or a puzzle to be solved. When I learn to obey God’s revealed will, He guides us as a loving Father to fulfill His purposes in this world. It is when one does not obey God’s revealed will in day-to-day life, that we don’t have the assurance of being in God’s will or doing His will.

The key to confidence in daily decision-making is to trust in God’s sovereign will and submit to God’s revealed will.
