Godly Sorrow Worketh Repentance

Godly Sorrow Worketh Repentance.

“For godly sorrow worketh repentance to salvation not to be repented of: but the sorrow of the world worketh death.” 2 Corinthians‬ ‭7:10‬ ‭KJV‬‬

Godly sorrow worketh repentance. God does not inflict pain. Nor does God inflict sorrow. In fact, God has carried our sorrow away through the shed Blood of His Son — Jesus Christ.

In proper context, 2 Corinthians‬ ‭7:10‬ ‭KJV‬‬, is speaking of Godly correction, repentance and the conviction of your heart. Paul, a father and an overseer of the Corinthian church, is speaking to his children, the Corinthians, concerning a previous letter addressing their spiritual behavior, character and conduct.

When a father corrects, out of love, it is to set his children — both natural and spiritual, on the right course. In fact, it did not please Paul to correct his children — the Corinthians, but it had to be done. True sons and daughters will submit to a Father’s correction. There’s a difference between correction and control. Good Fathers will correct out of Love and not out of a means to manipulate or control their children.

According to Strong’s Concordance, the Greek word for, “Sorrow” is, ‘lypē’ (G3077) which means, “Pain, grief, annoyance, affliction.” The word, “sorrow”, used in 2 Corinthians‬ ‭7:10‬ ‭KJV‬‬, describes the act of “turning away” from sin. Choose to repent. Choose to turn to God.

Think about a chiropractor, or a physical therapy expert, who has the authority and expertise to correct a misalignment in your body. Given the professional’s skill, experience and expertise, they are able to identify the misalignment and make the necessary adjustments to your body in order to get that part of your body back into proper alignment.

The Word of God, if properly handled, adjusts the misalignment in your spiritual life and gets you back on track into proper alignment with God. The Word of God reconciles your heart back to God. Let His Word prick your heart. Let His Word convict you. Let His Word realign you. Get back on track. Let His Word turn your life around.
