SAYING 19: POSSIBILITIES AND PITFALLS

Everyone knows the phrase TGIF – thank God it’s Friday!

It’s a beautiful feeling when the work week is coming to an end and you’re looking forward to plans for the weekend.
As Californians, we are drawn to sun and celebrations: weddings, graduations, birthdays, job promotions, movie premieres. Humans love to celebrate.  We love to meet up over coffee, smoothies, tea, wine, all kinds of concoctions.

Israel was a wine-producing country.  In the Old Testament, successful winepresses were a sign of blessing from God.  In Proverbs 9:25 wisdom set her table with wine and it was lovely.

Here the Saying of the Wise #17 gives a clear warning.  Throughout the proverbs, the elders sound the self-control alarm.  In Proverbs 31:1-9, wines dulls the senses, limits clear judgment; in Proverbs 4:17 it lowers our capacity for control.  Alcohol in excess can destroy a person’s efficiency (Proverbs 21:17).

The bigger picture is Be Alert. Don't miss the goodness of life.  Don't miss making good of life.
This proverb begins with a difficult micro story that must not be our story.
You are alive and this day and night can for you be filled with possibilities or pitfalls.
You choose.  There are so many choices.  SO MANY.
Make the best ones and see the rewards.
