Men yo arete m nan Jerizalèm epi yo livre m bay women yo. Mesye yo te poze m anpil kesyon, men yo pa t jwenn yon rezon valab pou touye m, konsa, yo te vle lage m. Men Jwif yo pa t dakò sa. Konsa mwen mande pou m vini Wòm pou plede koz mwen devan Seza. Sa pa vle di m ap akize pèp mwen an kòm si yo ta fè move bagay. Se poutèt sa mwen te vle wè nou epi pale avèk nou. Paske lespri pèp sa a vin lou, yo bouche zòrèy yo, yo fèmen je yo, pou yo pa wè ak je yo, pou yo pa tande nan zòrèy yo, pou yo pa konprann ak lespri yo, pou yo pa tounen vin jwenn mwen pou m geri yo. Se Bondye menm ki di sa. Apre sa, Pòl di yo: — Kounyeya, nou fèt pou nou konnen Bondye fè moun lòt nasyon yo konnen l'ap delivre yo tou. Yo menm, y'ap tande li. [ Lè l te fin di sa, jwif yo al fè wout yo, yo t'ap diskite yonn ak lòt.] Pòl te rete pandan dezan nan yon kay li te lwe. Li te resevwa tout moun ki te vin wè li. Li t'ap fè konnen gouvènman Bondye ki wa a, li t'ap moutre moun yo tout bagay sou Jezikri, Senyè a, kareman san pèsonn pa janm chache l kont.

Trois jours plus tard, Paul invite les notables juifs de Rome à venir chez lui. Quand ils sont réunis, il leur dit : « Frères, je n’ai rien fait contre notre peuple, ni contre les coutumes de nos ancêtres. Pourtant, on m’a arrêté à Jérusalem et on m’a livré aux Romains. Ceux-ci m’ont interrogé et ils voulaient me libérer. En effet, ils n’avaient pas trouvé de raison pour me condamner à mort. Mais les chefs juifs n’étaient pas d’accord, et j’ai été obligé de faire appel à l’empereur romain. Pourtant, je ne veux pas accuser mon peuple. Voilà pourquoi j’ai demandé à vous voir et à parler avec vous. Vous savez ce que le peuple d’Israël espère, oui, c’est à cause de cela que je suis attaché avec ces chaînes. » Les notables juifs lui répondent : « Nous n’avons reçu aucune lettre de Judée à ton sujet. Aucun de nos frères n’est venu ici pour faire un rapport ou pour nous dire du mal de toi. Mais nous voulons que tu nous expliques toi-même ce que tu penses. En effet, nous le savons, partout il y a des gens qui disent du mal de ton groupe. » Les notables juifs choisissent avec Paul un jour pour le rencontrer, et ce jour-là, ils reviennent le voir chez lui. Cette fois, ils sont plus nombreux. Depuis le matin jusqu’au soir, Paul leur donne des explications et il leur annonce avec force le Royaume de Dieu. Il leur parle de Jésus et il essaie de les persuader. Pour cela, il se sert de la loi de Moïse et des livres des prophètes. Les uns sont persuadés par ce qu’il dit, mais les autres refusent de croire. Au moment de partir, ils ne sont toujours pas d’accord entre eux. Paul leur dit seulement : « L’Esprit Saint avait raison quand il a dit à vos ancêtres, par la bouche du prophète Ésaïe : “Va voir ce peuple et dis-lui : Vous entendrez bien, mais vous ne comprendrez pas. Vous regarderez bien, mais vous ne verrez pas. Oui, ce peuple ne veut pas comprendre. Ils ont bouché leurs oreilles, ils ont fermé leurs yeux. Ils n’ont pas voulu voir avec leurs yeux, entendre avec leurs oreilles, comprendre avec leur cœur. Ils n’ont pas voulu se tourner vers moi. C’est pourquoi je n’ai pas pu les guérir .” » Paul dit encore : « Vous devez savoir une chose : Dieu a envoyé la Bonne Nouvelle du salut à ceux qui ne sont pas juifs. Eux, ils l’écouteront ! » [] Paul reste encore deux années entières dans le logement qu’il a loué, et il reçoit tous ceux qui viennent le voir. Il annonce le Royaume de Dieu et dans son enseignement, il présente le Seigneur Jésus-Christ avec beaucoup d’assurance et en toute liberté.

Three days later he called together the local Jewish leaders. When they had assembled, Paul said to them: “My brothers, although I have done nothing against our people or against the customs of our ancestors, I was arrested in Jerusalem and handed over to the Romans. They examined me and wanted to release me, because I was not guilty of any crime deserving death. The Jews objected, so I was compelled to make an appeal to Caesar. I certainly did not intend to bring any charge against my own people. For this reason I have asked to see you and talk with you. It is because of the hope of Israel that I am bound with this chain.” They replied, “We have not received any letters from Judea concerning you, and none of our people who have come from there has reported or said anything bad about you. But we want to hear what your views are, for we know that people everywhere are talking against this sect.” They arranged to meet Paul on a certain day, and came in even larger numbers to the place where he was staying. He witnessed to them from morning till evening, explaining about the kingdom of God, and from the Law of Moses and from the Prophets he tried to persuade them about Jesus. Some were convinced by what he said, but others would not believe. They disagreed among themselves and began to leave after Paul had made this final statement: “The Holy Spirit spoke the truth to your ancestors when he said through Isaiah the prophet: “ ‘Go to this people and say, “You will be ever hearing but never understanding; you will be ever seeing but never perceiving.” For this people’s heart has become calloused; they hardly hear with their ears, and they have closed their eyes. Otherwise they might see with their eyes, hear with their ears, understand with their hearts and turn, and I would heal them.’ “Therefore I want you to know that God’s salvation has been sent to the Gentiles, and they will listen!” For two whole years Paul stayed there in his own rented house and welcomed all who came to see him. He proclaimed the kingdom of God and taught about the Lord Jesus Christ—with all boldness and without hindrance!
