Yon jou, David mande: — Pa rete yon moun menm nan fanmi Sayil la? Si genyen, mwen ta renmen aji byen avè l poutèt Jonatan. Te gen yon domestik ki t'ap travay kay David. Li te rele Ziba. Yo fè chache li, yo mennen li bay wa a epi wa a mande li: — Se ou menm yo rele Ziba a? Li reponn: — Wi ekselans, wa mwen. Mwen la pou sèvi ou. Wa a mande l: — Pa gen yon moun ki rete nan fanmi Sayil la, pou m ka fè kichòy pou li jan mwen te pwomèt sa devan Bondye? Ziba reponn li: — Wi, gen yonn nan pitit gason Jonatan yo ki vivan toujou. Men, li enfim nan tou de pye l yo. Wa a mande l: — Kote l ye? Ziba reponn: — Li kay Maki, pitit gason Amiyèl la, lavil Lodeba. Se konsa, David voye chache l. Lè Mefibochèt, pitit Jonatan, pitit pitit Sayil la, rive, li mete ajenou, li bese tèt li rive atè devan David. David di l konsa: — Mefibochèt? Li reponn: — Se mwen menm, monwa. M la pou m sèvi ou. David di l konsa: — Ou pa bezwen pè. Mwen pral aji byen avè ou poutèt Jonatan, papa ou. M'ap renmèt ou tout tè ki te pou Sayil, granpapa ou. Lèfini, chak jou w'a vin manje sou tab avè m. Mefibochèt bese tèt li byen ba ankò, li di: — Monwa, poukisa w'ap okipe yon vye chen tou mouri tankou mwen? Lè sa a, wa a rele Ziba, domestik Sayil la, li di l konsa: — Mwen renmèt Mefibochèt, pitit pitit gason mèt ou a, tou sa ki te pou Sayil ak fanmi l. Ou men, ansanm ak pitit gason ou yo ak moun k'ap sèvi avè ou yo, nou pral travay tè a pou li. W'a pote rekòt la ba li pou rès fanmi l ka jwenn manje pou yo manje. Men, Mefibochèt li menm ap toujou vin manje chak jou sou tab avè m. Ziba te gen kenz pitit gason ak ven moun k'ap sèvi l. Ziba reponn li: — M'ap fè tou sa monwa ban m lòd fè. Se konsa, Mefibochèt toujou manje sou tab ansanm ak David tankou si li te yonn nan pitit wa a. Mefibochèt te gen yon pitit gason ki te piti joujou. Li te rele Mika. Tout moun ki te rete kay Ziba t'ap travay pou Mefibochèt. Se konsa, Mefibochèt ki te enfim nan tou de pye l yo rete lavil Jerizalèm. Li t'ap manje chak jou sou tab ansanm ak wa a.

Un jour, David demande : « Est-ce que quelqu’un de la famille de Saül est encore en vie ? Je voudrais agir envers lui avec bonté, à cause de Jonatan. » Or, la famille de Saül a eu un serviteur appelé Siba. On le fait venir devant le roi. David lui demande : « C’est toi, Siba ? » Il répond : « Oui, c’est moi. » Le roi dit : « Est-ce qu’il existe encore quelqu’un de la famille de Saül ? Je voudrais agir envers lui comme Dieu lui-même, avec bonté. » Siba répond au roi : « Il y a encore un fils de Jonatan. Il est handicapé des deux jambes. » Le roi demande : « Où est-il ? » Siba répond : « Il est chez Makir, le fils d’Ammiel, à Lo-Dabar. » Le roi David l’envoie chercher à Lo-Dabar. Quand Mefibaal , fils de Jonatan et petit-fils de Saül, arrive chez David, il s’incline jusqu’à terre devant lui. David lui dit : « C’est toi, Mefibaal ? » Il répond : « Oui, c’est moi. » David lui dit : « N’aie pas peur ! Je veux agir envers toi avec bonté, à cause de ton père Jonatan. Je te rendrai tous les champs de ton grand-père Saül, et toi, tu mangeras tous les jours à ma table. » Mefibaal s’incline et dit : « Je suis comme un chien mort. Pourquoi veux-tu prendre soin de moi ? » Mais le roi fait venir Siba, serviteur de Saül, et il lui dit : « Je donne à Mefibaal, le petit-fils de ton maître, tout ce qui appartenait à Saül et à toute sa famille. Toi, tes fils et tes serviteurs, vous cultiverez la terre pour lui. Ce que vous récolterez servira à nourrir sa famille, et Mefibaal mangera tous les jours à ma table. » Or, Siba avait 15 fils et 20 serviteurs. Il dit au roi : « Je ferai tout ce que tu me commandes. Mais Mefibaal a l’habitude de manger à ma table, parce qu’il est un petit-fils de Saül. » Mefibaal a un jeune fils, Mika. Tous ceux qui habitent dans la maison de Siba sont au service de Mefibaal. Comme il boite des deux pieds, il s’installe à Jérusalem. Ainsi, il peut aller manger tous les jours à la table du roi.

David asked, “Is there anyone still left of the house of Saul to whom I can show kindness for Jonathan’s sake?” Now there was a servant of Saul’s household named Ziba. They summoned him to appear before David, and the king said to him, “Are you Ziba?” “At your service,” he replied. The king asked, “Is there no one still alive from the house of Saul to whom I can show God’s kindness?” Ziba answered the king, “There is still a son of Jonathan; he is lame in both feet.” “Where is he?” the king asked. Ziba answered, “He is at the house of Makir son of Ammiel in Lo Debar.” So King David had him brought from Lo Debar, from the house of Makir son of Ammiel. When Mephibosheth son of Jonathan, the son of Saul, came to David, he bowed down to pay him honor. David said, “Mephibosheth!” “At your service,” he replied. “Don’t be afraid,” David said to him, “for I will surely show you kindness for the sake of your father Jonathan. I will restore to you all the land that belonged to your grandfather Saul, and you will always eat at my table.” Mephibosheth bowed down and said, “What is your servant, that you should notice a dead dog like me?” Then the king summoned Ziba, Saul’s steward, and said to him, “I have given your master’s grandson everything that belonged to Saul and his family. You and your sons and your servants are to farm the land for him and bring in the crops, so that your master’s grandson may be provided for. And Mephibosheth, grandson of your master, will always eat at my table.” (Now Ziba had fifteen sons and twenty servants.) Then Ziba said to the king, “Your servant will do whatever my lord the king commands his servant to do.” So Mephibosheth ate at David’s table like one of the king’s sons. Mephibosheth had a young son named Mika, and all the members of Ziba’s household were servants of Mephibosheth. And Mephibosheth lived in Jerusalem, because he always ate at the king’s table; he was lame in both feet.

David demanda : Reste-t-il encore un survivant de la famille de Saül ? J’aimerais lui témoigner ma faveur par amitié pour Jonathan. Or, il y avait un ancien serviteur de la maison de Saül nommé Tsiba. On le fit venir auprès de David. Le roi lui demanda : Es-tu bien Tsiba ? Il répondit : C’est moi, ton serviteur ! Puis le roi lui posa la question : Reste-t-il encore quelqu’un de la famille de Saül ? Je voudrais lui témoigner ma faveur comme je l’ai promis devant Dieu. Tsiba lui répondit : Il existe encore un fils de Jonathan qui a les deux jambes estropiées. – Où vit-il ? lui demanda le roi. Tsiba répondit : Dans la maison de Makir, un fils d’Ammiel à Lo-Debar. Le roi David l’envoya donc chercher à Lo-Debar dans la maison de Makir. Lorsque Mephibosheth, fils de Jonathan et petit-fils de Saül, fut arrivé chez David, il s’inclina face contre terre et se prosterna devant lui. David l’appela : Mephibosheth ! – C’est bien moi, pour te servir. Et David lui dit : N’aie aucune crainte ; car je t’assure que je veux te traiter avec faveur par amitié pour ton père Jonathan. De plus, je te rendrai toutes les terres qui appartenaient à ton grand-père Saül. Quant à toi, tu prendras tous tes repas à ma table. Mephibosheth se prosterna de nouveau et dit : Qu’est donc ton serviteur pour que tu t’intéresses à lui ? Je ne vaux pas plus qu’un chien mort. Le roi appela Tsiba, le domestique de Saül, et lui dit : Tout ce qui appartenait à Saül et à toute sa famille, je le donne au petit-fils de ton maître. Toi, tes fils et tes serviteurs, vous cultiverez ses terres pour lui et tu apporteras ce que vous récolterez pour assurer l’entretien du fils de ton maître. Quant à Mephibosheth, le fils de ton maître, c’est à ma table qu’il prendra tous les jours ses repas. Or Tsiba avait quinze fils et vingt serviteurs. Il dit au roi : Ton serviteur fera tout ce que le roi mon seigneur lui a ordonné. Ainsi Mephibosheth mangea à la table royale comme s’il était l’un des fils du roi. Mephibosheth avait un jeune fils nommé Mika. Tous ceux qui demeuraient chez Tsiba étaient à son service. Comme il était estropié des deux pieds, il résidait à Jérusalem pour pouvoir aller tous les jours manger à la table du roi.
