Developing Your Team's Character - Part IV

Coach Tommy Bowden developed a system to help shape the character of his football players called CARDS. Commitment. Accountability. Responsibility. Today, we'll consider D for discipline.

Many interns or younger employees have not had as much opportunity to apply discipline to their life. This can require patience on your part.

By helping your team members establish good habits, you will help them establish the processes and rhythms they need to live a disciplined life.

Hebrews 12:11 teaches, "For the moment, all discipline seems not to be pleasant, but painful; yet to those who have been trained by it, afterward it yields the peaceful fruit of righteousness."

As an employer, there will be times you need to discipline employees for bad behavior to train them on learning discipline for life.

Questions for Reflection:

  • There are several types of discipline, one being a character trait and another being an act of correction. How are the two related?
  • What do you think it takes to lead a disciplined life?
  • According to Hebrews 12:11, how is discipline eventually described in the life of those who have been trained by it?
