Manicure

Isn’t it funny how some people’s hands can almost tell a story? Some look dry, brittle, and hard, while others can be soft, smooth, and polished. Take a look at your hands. What do you think they would say about you? For me, the story my hands tell would depend on whether I’ve had a manicure recently. If it’s been a while, my hands would tell the story of a busy mom who is unwilling to take the time for herself and enjoy a manicure. When I have a fresh manicure, it’s usually because I have a function to attend, and I would like to look clean and polished. Only then am I usually willing to spend time in the manicure chair.

Regardless of the way you see your hands, I can almost guarantee that you don’t see them as God sees them. To God, beautiful hands are willing hands. When your hands are dry and chipped, and you need a manicure, you must be willing to go to the salon and sit in the chair. You have to place your hands into the hands of the manicurist and trust her not to harm you while she’s cutting, clipping, shaping, and removing your cuticles. Eventually, your skin softens, but there’s a process to making them beautiful, and it starts with your will. The Spirit of God wants to give you a spiritual manicure, but it also depends upon you handing yourself over to him. Are you willing?

BEAUTY INSIDER TIP: Are you willing to learn?

God wants to teach us to use our hands for him. The Bible says that if we listen to advice and are willing to learn, then we will eventually become wise (Proverbs 19:20 GNT). King David wasn’t always a wise, mighty, valiant warrior. He started as a shepherd boy in the field, tending to his father’s flock and running errands. But one of the things that made David so special was his willingness to learn. He said in Psalm 144:1, “Blessed be the name of the Lord my strength which teacheth my hands to war, and my fingers to fight” (KJV). Even after David was anointed to become king, he did not cease to learn the Word of God (Psalm 18:22). He was constantly learning the Word of God. The little shepherd boy grew to be a great king and warrior for the Lord. You too can become, like David, a force to be reckoned with—if you’re willing to learn.
