Does eternity give perspective to our life?

Thoughts on this Message

What are the kinds of people who choose to follow Jesus?  Some have not thought it out carefully.  Jesus corrects that thinking – it is not just an exciting time full of great experiences.  We must expect challenges – sometimes they are huge challenges.  Some others want to live their lives first – and follow Jesus second.  Here Jesus says let those who are spiritually dead bury people that die physically – they have lots of time to handle that.

Why does Jesus say these things?  He is trying to get us to think past this life and think about eternity.  That is so hard to do.  It is easier to let this life color our understanding of eternity.  Jesus is asking us to let eternity paint the picture of our lives on this earth.  It is a different picture – different colors, different scenes and different people in the picture.

Let’s take time today to look at what our picture uses as the basis for its painting.

Time to Pray

Father, it is hard to see the spiritual.  I am a physical person.  I see things with my eyes and touch things with my hands.  It is hard to stop and see life differently.  You told us to have eyes to see and ears to hear things that are spiritual.  Touch my eyes today, I pray.  Touch my heart to love the spiritual more than the physical.  Touch me so that I see things this way.  It will paint a different picture of pain, of grief, of loneliness, of what satisfies, of what releases joy than what I would see with my natural senses.  It will also make heaven more like home than this earth – and I want that.  In Jesus’ name I pray Amen.
