Resting in the Lord

יום 3 מתוך 7

Find satisfaction in the Lord

These verses are written for the Israelites in exile, and God is inviting them into his presence. With this invitation also comes the call to let go of the ways of Babylon. The Babylonians very much influenced the Israelites. When we come to God, we need to let go of the ways of this world.

Jesus says this in John 17:14 NLT: "I have given them your word. And the world hates them because they do not belong to the world, just as I do not belong to the world." In church, we hear this often, in the world, but not of it. The scary part of this phrase is that we might feel we need to work towards this, but this is actually the starting point.

This is the point where God is inviting us to come to. To live from this point where we don't expect anything from this world but expect everything from heaven. Isaiah 55:2 says, "Why to pay for food that does you no good?" This is the food of the world. The Message translation speaks about the food of this world as junk food and cotton candy. Both are very unhealthy. It makes you feel good when eating it, but you feel hungry again shortly after. It does not nurture your body well. It does you no good. What are you feeding on spiritually? Are you influenced mainly by the words of this world? Or are you drinking, feasting on the words of the Lord?

Prayer:

Father, today I want to respond again to the invite to come and drink. To feast on your words. I expect everything from you. Nothing in this world can satisfy me.
