Raising Boys Who Respect Girls By Dave Willisדוגמה
In our frustration, we’re quick to diagnose what needs to happen next. Some believe it requires rewriting the laws. Others believe the focus should be on education or on changing the climate in the corporate workplace. While all those proposed focuses have merit, I’m proposing something different. . . .
The key character in this story is you (and me). What if each of us reimagined the roles and responsibilities we have in bringing resolution to this issue for the next generation? What if our change of heart and change of attitude also marked a powerfully effective change of parenting that could help our children right some wrongs that have been left unfinished by previous generations? What if our generation could be the last one to ever experience inequality?
Yes, we need legislation, we need cultural change, we need accountability, we need respect, we need lots of things. But as we’re publicly passing judgment on all the prominent figures who have fallen, we should also make an honest self-evaluation about our own thoughts and actions. We have all been part of the problem, and until we have the courage to admit that, we’ll never find a lasting solution. Change begins by reexamining our own part in this story and then committing to teach our children to do the same.
