Follow Me: An Unending Conversation With Jesusדוגמה
One of the things I love most about prayer is the juxtaposition of being known by God and being nameless and faceless with others. Let me explain. There is no one who knows me better than I know myself than God. There is no one I can be more honest and transparent with. There is no safer place to be loved, disciplined, and discipled than by the Holy Spirit through the Word (Jesus) to live the will of God. The intimacy of this relationship is real and raw and authentic.
In this private place, God works on your heart, much like the clay on a potter’s wheel. In this place, broken pieces are put back together again—stronger and better, with no evidence of the break. From this place, worship and prayer begin to overflow and touch every facet of your life. The wonder of prayer and praying! In this place you learn John 13. In this place you are humbled, and Jesus comes and washes your feet, so often dirty with sin, soiled with unforgiveness, and bleeding from offenses. In this place, you humble yourself before our mighty God and submit to the wonder of Jesus washing your feet.
Then from this place, you pray. And God tells you secrets. And you pray in secret. And you serve God and others through agreeing in prayer. The most powerful prayer you can pray is, “Father, how do You want me to pray?” From this place of submitting your will, what you think is best, and what you may want to pray, God begins to give you His burden. His perspective. His will for others. And you “wash the feet” of the one you are praying for. And you fight for the will of God to be executed on earth as it is in heaven.
Jesus served His disciples as He washed their feet. In the Upper Room, they shared time, food, and conversation, and it was in this setting, that Christ revealed Himself to them. I trust you have begun your own conversation with Jesus and are hearing from Him. The commitment you give Christ in your Upper Room will allow you to be bold when He asks you to be strong, to witness with words when He speaks, and to be courageous when He leads you into battle.
Create a place in your life, if you haven’t already, that is your Upper Room. What may your Savior be asking you to pray?

As believers, we are called to a lifetime of walking and talking with Him. As I explored the Gospel of John, God began to cultivate conversation and prayer from His heart to mine. My hope is that as you read through this devotional, you too will linger in His presence and allow His Word to become a divine conversation-starter.
