Day 5: Unbound Freedom

There is freedom in God. Why? One reason is found in this simple truth: God goes first. “The Lord himself goes before you and will be with you” (Deuteronomy 31:8 niv).

You never have to go first into any situation you face. When you walk into that doctor's office to get those results, God goes first. When the text comes that you’ve been dreading, God goes first. When you’re presenting that business idea, God goes first. When you send your baby to pre-K, God goes first.

Whatever we face—good or bad, monumental or minute—God goes first.

Allow His knowledge and foreknowledge to transform your careful and concerned heart. Feel freedom’s flag unfurling inside. There is no room He asks you to enter that He hasn’t already walked into. There’s no corner that He doesn’t see around. There’s no injury or incapacity in you that He hasn’t combed through.

This. Sets. You. Free. You follow a God who gets there first.

Can you begin to open your heart to this idea? I know it’s not easy. Maybe you’ve stepped back from the story God is writing, feeling bound by the things you cannot speak aloud. The self-inflicted wounds, the stubborn wanderings, the disappointments in others, the choices that have crippled. You might be afraid to trust again—yourself or anyone else. But even that can’t change the reality that when you can’t see what’s in front of you, God is still at work. No matter how you’re feeling, He is so powerful and so unreservedly for you. He knows your every wound, your every flaw, your every tendency, and still He reaches to you, this very moment, inviting you into His great story.

What step can you take today to believe more fully that you are loved by a God who goes first?

Prayer:

Lord, open my heart to the freedom I have in You, the God who goes first. Open my mind to faith, not fear, believing that You know what lies around every corner.
