The King Without Confidence - Part 2
Samuel uncorks his small bottle of olive oil. He pours a small amount and anoints the head of Saul.
Then Samuel tells Saul the immediate future.
“You’re chosen to be king. When you leave me, you will meet two men who will tell you that they have found your donkeys. After that, you will meet three men near a big oak tree. After they say hello, one of them will give you two loaves of bread. Next, go to Gibeah, near a Philistine camp. You’ll see a group of prophets who will be prophesying. God will take control of you, and you’ll begin to prophesy right along with them.”
Everything happens as Samuel says, and Saul goes home. When his family asks him about his journey, he tells them everything that happened...EXCEPT for one crucial part. He leaves out the section where Samuel has anointed him as King.
But when God chooses you, things seem to work a certain way, no matter how much hiding you do.
Samuel tells the Israelites to come to Mizpah for a worship service. While there, Samuel shares with Israel that God has heard them and has chosen a king. Samuel goes through all the tribes and stops at the tribe of Benjamin. Then, he goes through all of the clans in the tribe and stops at the Matri clan. After going through the Matri clan, he stops at Kish’s immediate family and chooses the name of Saul.
One problem. Where is Saul?
The people prayed, and God responded, “Saul is hiding in the luggage.”
Israel came together for a big campout, and Saul took this opportunity to hide underneath the bags and camping equipment.
How’s that for kingly confidence...
After God outed Saul, the people found him and proclaimed him King!
Are you hiding? Has God sent someone with a special message for you...one you have chosen to hide from?
That’s the impostor again. God has equipped you to do JUST what He has chosen you to do. Trust Him to help you do what you have been assigned. And trust Him to help you navigate the impostor.
