3. Personal Attentiveness. To be a disciple who makes disciples, next, following Jesus’ example of showing personal attention to people one by one is absolutely essential.

There are so many examples of this in Jesus’ life and ministry, including Jesus and the woman suffering from bleeding (Matthew 9:20-22); Jesus and the blind man He had healed (John 9:24-38); Jesus and the woman caught in adultery (John 8:2-11); Jesus and the parables of the lost sheep, the lost coin, and the lost son(s) (Luke 15); and Jesus and the restoration of Peter (John 21:15-22). In Mark 3:13-19, we see how Jesus prayed all night, He appointed the Twelve to be with Him, and then sent them out to minister in the world—to be personally attentive to others!

“Father God, help me to follow Jesus’ example and love the people around me as He loved those around Him. He took notice of them and their plight. He had compassion on them. And His touch forever transformed their lives. He responded to their practical needs first, and then He helped them spiritually. Help me to see those around me, intercede for them, and be used of You to help them know You, draw close to You, be touched and transformed by You.”
