Living A Generous Life

DAY 5 OF 5

God Is the Ultimate Giver

We’ve learned why giving matters to God, but it’s helpful to know that He gave the perfect example for us to follow. How do we know this? Because God gave the most extravagant gift the world has ever known—His Son, Jesus.

In John 3:16, it says that God loved the world—that means you—so much that He gave. He gave His only Son as a sacrifice so that everyone who calls on the name of Jesus will be saved, transformed, and made completely new.

Even though all of us are sinners who fall short of God’s perfect standard, God gave a way for us to have a relationship with Him. You were so valuable to God that He gave His Son just to know you, to have a relationship with you, and to show you how much He loved you.

That’s why we give. God gave everything for us, and it’s our only reasonable response to give all we have back to Him as an offering.

All of us who choose to follow Jesus are privileged to give so that more people can come to know Him. You may think you don’t have much, but God doesn’t care about the size of your gift. He cares about the size of your sacrifice. The habits you build now will shape your future. So, let your prayer be to live a generous life. Not because you have to, but because you get to honor God through giving.

Pray: God, thank You for giving us the most generous gift we could ever imagine. Thank You for loving us so much that You sent us Your Son, Jesus, so that we could know You. Help me become more like You by being more generous, God. Give me a generous spirit, and help me show others how much You love them. In Jesus’ name, amen.

Challenge: What’s one thing you can do now to start living a generous life?
