Overwhelmed by My Blessings: Encouragement for Moms (Part 8)Sample
Think about it. Are you stagnant or growing? Are you doing anything to develop yourself?
We spend so much effort and time on producing loving, giving, kind children, that we often leave our personal development and growth on the back burner. Or maybe our focus has been on “helping” our husband to see the weaknesses in his life. As for us, we are waiting for a better time so we can finally focus on ourselves. But, are we responsible for others to turn out well, or are we responsible for our own growth?
Usually, the motivation for seeing growth in our family is to make our own lives easier. Think about it. It’s true. If people in our lives are controlled and well-behaved, then situations are controlled, which in our minds equals an easier life. And who doesn't want an easier life?
What if the best way to freedom and the best way to love our husbands and to see our children grow is to work on ourselves? What might change if we began to really control ourselves? What if the ever-changing, overwhelming, world we live in could be overcome by living in the never-changing principles of God’s truth?
What might our days look like? How might our fears be shut down? How might the lies be silenced? How might our own attitudes and actions change if we conform and align with His Word?
We can become self-aware, Truth-guided women who are not tripped up by the attitudes and actions of others! It's a hard, right decision to make.
Our own attitudes and actions, our behaviors, will line up with what we choose to believe. And when we believe the Truth of God, we will not be driven by our emotions and by the overwhelming circumstances of our life.
Begin today. Focus on changing you. Write down what you believe to be true about yourself. Write down how you think others see you. Do these thoughts and beliefs line up with what God says about you? Are your attitudes and actions reflective of who He says you are, who He’s called you to be? Maybe you need to change some old patterns.
It won’t happen overnight, but as you begin to walk in new beliefs, your attitudes and actions will follow. You and your family will be better for it!
Father, I admit that my focus has been on building and correcting my family members more than looking at myself. Help me realize that change in my family begins with me, with my own thoughts and beliefs. I clear my mind and focus on You, and pray that Your truths will jump out at me as I daily read Your Word and come to You for guidance and power. May I be aligned with Your ways, Your truth, and Your life, being more concerned with my own growth and development than anyone else’s. I'm getting out my pen and beginning now!
Consider reading today's scriptures from The Message.
