Skillet - Unleashed - The Overflow DevoSample
“I Want To Live” Devotional
Skillet
As Skillet tours around the world we hear so many dramatic stories of how music is spiritually changing lives. I am not sure why music is the medium by which God so powerfully moves, but it is obvious He has infused music with His spirit.
After a show in Russia, we received a note from a young teen girl. Though she wrote in broken English, we understood that she and her four siblings and parents lived in one room. Her parents fought all the time. She was being verbally abused at home and bullied at school. She just couldn’t see the light at the end of the tunnel. She couldn’t see the big-picture hope due to the hopelessness of her day-to-day circumstances. In desperation, she decided she would kill herself.
Then she heard our music.
Through the strains of verse-and-chorus, a certain happiness was resurrected inside of her heart. She said the songs reignited in her a desire to live. Through the mercy of music, God saved this girl’s life.
All I ever needed
Was a reason to believe
You help me hold on
You ignite the fire in me
As Christians, we sometimes de-spiritualize the testimony of God saving someone’s life because we are constantly looking for “conversions”. We can hear a breathtaking, life-changing experience like this girl’s story, and comment, “That’s good, but where is the deep spiritual thing?” But our job is to share the message, not save the soul. We spread the extravagant love of Christ to every single person, but He is the one who make us good. He makes us worthy. And He gives us life.
“Consider the kind of extravagant love the Father has lavished on us—He calls us children of God! It’s true; we are His beloved children.” (1 John 3:1) In other words, think on this: God has invited us to be His family, not just His friends!
With His life living through us, and out of His love for us, we are given the freedom to truly choose life. When we feel unloved, when we wonder if life is worthwhile, the life of God living in our souls gives us the liberty to live free – and to live forever.
“I have been crucified with the Anointed One—I am no longer alive—but the Anointed is living in me.” (Galatians 2:20)
I want to live my life
The choice is mine, I made up my mind
Now I'm free to start again
