Honor God With Your Relationships: Respecting your parents
What is your motivation for obeying laws?
Well, if you’re like most people, you obey laws so as not to get punished. We all have enough grief in our lives that we don’t need--fines, lost driver’s license points, jail time, or a criminal record.
When God’s grace touches your heart, changes happen. The more we are driven by God’s forgiving grace, the more we can perceive the loving intent behind his commandments. Prizing and respecting our parents makes their lives better, honors the God who gave them to us, and it also carries God’s serious promises to increase both the quantity and quality of our lives.
“‘Honor your father and mother’--which is the first commandment with a promise--‘that it may go well with you and that you may enjoy long life on the earth’” (Ephesians 6:2,3). Do it today.
