Fight For Freedom (Let The Walls Fall)

Ephesians 4:2-6

We were all born with two fears woven into our DNA. Falling and loud noises. Every other fear you and I possess is a learned fear. In some cases we learn to fear something based on our own experiences while in other instances certain fears are instilled in us by another person's experiences, or perspective. Some fears we all live with on a daily bases may seem justifiable or reasonable, while others, if we were to really peer into what we have been told to be afraid of, just don't hold up. The problem with fear is that it paralyzes and imprisons.

Throughout history we have fashioned bricks out of our fears and built walls to isolate ourselves, our homes, our private schools, and our churches. We've built walls to block out adverse opinions, differences in political parties, and people that don't look, think, or act just like us. We isolate ourselves from those with a different socio economic status, those who value certain religious customs over another, and those who don't value 'religion' at all.

The problem with these walls is that the last thing God wants is for His church to be isolated. Rather, He desires that we be insulated with His Spirit and power to go back into the world He rescued us from to rescue others. God has called us to be separate from the world but separation from the world and distance from the world are two different things. We cannot impact people we are not close to. We have to tear down the walls of opinions that have imprisoned the church. This means individually we must be willing to tear down our personal walls brick by brick.

The truth is, we are called to build bridges. To live in intentional community with others in a way that fulfills the call on every believer's life to share the gospel. One person said, 'we don't have to be twins to be brothers.' We don't have to agree to love. We have a responsibility to fight for freedom, not just for ourselves but so that the world would come to know Christ. Let the walls fall today, you could change it all!
